I am looking to rehome my dog Lenny. She is a 4 y/o Kangal that I took on a year and a half ago with the hopes of her being a good partner for my other LGD, but she has proven unsafe around chickens despite my efforts to train her with them. Lenny is a sweet girl with a calm disposition, she is spayed and knows her basic commands (sit, lay down, stay) though she does possess the LGD trait of very selective listening and stubborn-ness. She has shown strong instincts to deter predators and will bark at and chase down threats, so it is important that her new owner know that she can be loud. Lenny tests fences and will squeeze underneath inadequate fencing – she will wander if she gets out but she has always come back. I suggest that her next home have lots of space for her to run and sturdy fencing. Lenny has been trained with electric fencing and is respectful of it. I have spent some time training Lenny with my sheep and she has shown potential but is not yet safe around them solo. She is house broken, unchipped, and safe around my male LGD – I have been told she can be selective with other dogs, but have not had any issues with her and my younger male Great Pyrenees. My hope is that Lenny can find a home where she can either be a farm dog with room to roam or is placed with someone that has more time to work on her training with medium/large livestock – I do not think she is suitable to guard poultry.
