Ned is a beautiful six year old shepherd mix with German Shepherd colouring, weighing around 60kg. He has been raised in the rural Kootenays and Crawford Bay area. He is great with people, loves his bush and beach walks and chasing his ball. He has been raised with cats but hasn’t spent time around farm animals. He is happy to chase deer or bears out of the garden and stays alert for visitors when he is outside, making lots of fuss when anyone is near the property but otherwise doesn’t bark unnecessarily. Ned is good about staying at home on his property, but he will go on a perimeter check, usually in the morning. He is indoor-outdoor, spending nights inside.
When we are on off-leash bush walks Ned will scout around and occasionally chase wildlife but always returns soon. Walking on-leash is a bit of a challenge, he is fine with it but will pull hard at times. I always keep him on-leash in areas where there are other dog-walkers as he does have some reactivity issues. He gets along well with other dogs after a proper introduction. His reactivity is mostly when he encounters a larger dog, usually another male. He has never attacked small-breed dogs. If he is playing with a pal he will often react to other approaching dogs.
Ned is a high-energy boy, sometimes I will run him on backroads with the car and he enjoys that. He is raring to go on any adventure and does tend to be whiny in the car if he knows he is going somewhere fun. After a good walk and some ball-tossing he will settle down. He likes to be close to his people and receive pets and attention but is not a big snuggler and sleeps in his own bed. He does shed if he isn’t brushed regularly but everyone who sees him says how handsome he is, and they love his one ear that flops a little.
I am facing a major health challenge with very reduced mobility and I cannot take care of my boy the way he needs right now. I am hoping to find a home that will take care of him indefinitely and possibly adopt him if I don’t bounce back from this illness.
